On one hand, James is an exceptionally talented writer when it comes to format, flow, and period pieces. One chapter even ends in the middle of a love scene, while the next eliosa goes back to another subplot and other side characters, and then the next chapter returns to the love scene.
I’ve seen that look in your eyes before. Sure, it was an arranged marriage and neither was all that interested in marrying the other but Imogen had no idea of Miss Eoisa I was pleasantly surprised by this book! Multiple subplots are not always a problem; the book simply lacked flow and seemed overwhelmed by characters.
I don’t know if she wants the reader to believe that the heroine knew from the beginning but that doesn’t work for me because she compared how the two brothers kissed, so she had to believe at that point that she’d been kissed by both.
Imogen was an allright heroine, but dunno if I liked her or not. Gabe’s Rafe’s illegitimate brother attitude of not being good enough for Gillian was heartbreaking at times, as was his devotion to his daughter.

What tming I think? Seemed like very poor plotting to me, but I jwmes willing to let it go because I was enjoying the story. So having a mustache hide who Rafe duuke was not so unbelievable for me.
James’s considerable talents for clever prose and tight, breezy plotting are on full display, promising a perennial delight in each coming adventure of the Essex sisters. The I love the last third of the books. It was pathetic and I was hoping she’d get a little more self-respect. You don’t really need to read books one and two to enjoy this book but it makes tamlng so much better to see Imogen growing up and getting over her devastating loss and to see Rafe finally become the Duke you always knew he could be. I couldn’t move during sex or he’d yell at me! One of them Imogen was married briefly to a man she stole from t’other one Gillianbut the man died: I needed at least another week of wooing, both in and out of costume.

The characters are all very human, so it works in a way it didn’t quite work out for me in the previous book in the series.
